Sponsored Athletes

Meet the team!

We needed a team of athletes who could test our products, act as rolling billboards out on the roads and let people know about are unique product range.  So we went looking for a team of athletes to sponsor.  Since our customers are age groupers who really like their bikes and their racing, we decided to search for age group athletes to sponsor.  The Cyclespeed Board of Directors mandated that the company budget would support no more then two such athletes and so our search began.  Six weeks, nearly one hundred applications and several cases of cheap Pinot later, the Cyclespeed management team had narrowed the field down to five
.

Unable to make the tough decisions, we sponsored all five of them.  Dr Karl was given the task of explaining this decision to the board while Andrew was away on a cycling conference at Mt Hotham...  So for the next twelve months our sponsored athletes will have their bicycles upgraded with Cyclespeed equipment, will have all their servicing requirements looked after and will receive all the assistance we can provide them in reaching their racing goals.  They also get their bikes washed whenever they want and in case your wondering, no, there are no hot pants at the bike wash...

Our Team for 2008-09

Kelly Duhig has been accepted into Ultra Man.  Kelly enjoyed his Kona experience but wanted something longer.  For people like Kelly there is Ultra Man - a three day effort on the Big Island.

Day 1 consists of a 10 kilometre open water swim, followed by a 145 kilometre bike ride to the top of a volcano!  Day 2 is a 276 kilometre ride crossing over the Kohala Mountains.   Day 3 is an 84 kilometre double marathon, through the Big Island of Hawaii’s infamous lava fields.  Kelly is raising funds for the Cure for Life foundation.  For more information go to www.cureforlife.org.au or see Kelly's short film at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83THPRKEV54

Jodie Scott is returning from injury and aiming for IM New Zealand in 2009.  Jodie will be using the Australian Half Ironman series as she trains back into form.  You'll find Jodie somewhere between Bayside and Portsea on her bike which is where she has been spending most of her time.

Irene Digenis has only been competing in triathlons for a year and recently set the fastest bike split on course (including the elites), so of course we are sponsoring her.  Having just won her age group in the Melbourne Gatorade series Irene will be focussing on her cycling for the 2008 season.

So thats our team for the upcoming season.  We'll post their race results and a few photos over the next few months.  If you have any questions for our sponsored athletes, please send them to sponsorship@cyclespeed.com.au
